In The Same Heart
When Paul told to Timothy “Godliness with contentment is great gain “I Timothy 6:6ff
He contrasted contentment with the desire to be rich and with the love of money. Paul went to the heart of matter. In pairing contentment with godliness he shows us we must find our “sufficiency” in a “satisfying” relationship of divine approval rather than in temporal possessions.
Contentment is not laziness or lack of ambition. We must work and earn material possessions (Acts 20:34; Ephesians 4:28) But they must not dominate our thinking.
The war with covetousness begins when we are teenagers and the roll of the older Christians is to teach them with our example and not doubt this will may profit them . Like Paul did with Timothy to overcomes materialism I Timothy 6:8; Hebrews 13:5
If we want to be master of ourself we must follows the practical application of principles taught in God’s word.
1- Be ever thankful for what you have Philippians 4:6
2- Learn to want only what you can have Philippians 4:11-12
3- Live to serve not to be served 2 Thessalonians 3:12
They are not easily practiced but neither are impossible .
Please read again I Timothy 6:8-10
